This circular route leads through the forest on the Auersberg with the option of a detour to the Auersburg castle ruins.

From the Köpfchen car park, the gravel paths take you through the forest. With this Rhön circular route, you have the choice between a small circular route of 5.8 km (approx. 2 hours) and a large circular route of 7.4 km (approx. 2 ½ hours). We recommend the detour (side trail) to the Auersburg castle ruins with a fantastic view from the observation tower there.

The tour is not accessible by public transport.

Getting there

Hilders can be reached by car via the A7. Leave the autobahn at exit 92 Fulda-Mitte. Then drive onto the B458 in the direction of Hilders. When you reach the Hilders district of Batten, turn left towards Hilders. At the traffic light, turn right, turn right at the following priority road, which bends shortly after, and then turn left into Rhönstraße. Follow this in the direction of Simmershausen and you will find the public car park on the left-hand side.
