Winter hiking
This winter hiking trail runs through the Lange Rhön nature reserve with a wonderful view of the land of open distances.
easy
Distance 2.3 km
The winter hiking trail starts at the Schornhecke and leads us along partly open, partly wooded paths on the Hessian-Bavarian border through the snow-covered Rhön landscape. Next to the Hochrhönstraße it goes back to the starting point. There is an extensive view of the Heidelstein mountain and the snow-capped Wasserkuppe. If you want to continue enjoying the winter landscape, you can join the entertaining winter hiking trail in the direction of Heidelstein.
When the hiking weather is good at the weekend, the Schornhecke infomobile is open at the local car park. There you can find interesting brochures on the Rhön biosphere reserve.
Author’s recommendation
Not far from the Schornhecke is the Rote Moor with other winter sports facilities.

The tourist paths of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, horse riders, cross-country skiers, etc.).We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. Of course, the same applies to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, nature sports should therefore only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.
