The Guckaisee is the only lake in the Hessian Rhön that was created naturally. In summer it inspires as a natural bathing lake and attracts countless recreational athletes on their tours. In winter, the experience is rotated 180 degrees. Walkers can experience the lake in its hibernation.

The winter hiking trail leads hikers from Poppenhausen (Wasserkuppe) to the popular lake. On the 3.6 kilometers you walk through the wintry landscape of the Rhön. During this time of year, many animal species are also in their hibernation. The walk is characterized by silence and plenty of time for your own thoughts.

Safety information

The tourist routes of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, riders, cross-country skiers, etc.).

We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. The same applies, of course, to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, therefore, nature sports should only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.
