The entire length of the nature trail remains in a wooded area of pine and beech. This is a family-friendly, easily accessible hiking trail - on the one hand the forest provides shade and thus offers protection on warm summer days, on the other hand the path is well paved and therefore suitable for prams. Several information boards along the route provide information about the way of life, the dangers and protection of the native butterflies.
Author’s recommendation
The months of July and August are particularly suitable for observing the butterflies.

To get to the entrance at the butterfly trail between Oberwaldbehrungen and Oberelsbach, take the A71 to Bad Neustadt an der Saale. Then take exit 25 Bad Neustadt an der Saale onto the B279 in the direction of Bad Neustadt/Bischofsheim and follow the B279 to Wegfurt. Turn right there in the direction of Sondernau/Oberelsbach onto the NES16 and follow the road to Oberelsbach. In Oberelsbach turn right onto Oberwaldbehrunger Straße and follow the main road to the butterfly educational trail in the forest.To start in Unterelsbach, take the A71 to Bad Neustadt an der Saale. Then take exit 25 Bad Neustadt an der Saale onto the B279 in the direction of Bad Neustadt/Bischofsheim and follow the B279 to Wegfurt. Turn right there in the direction of Sondernau/Unterelsbach on the NES16 and follow the road NES24 to Unterelsbach. In Unterelsbach, follow the main road to the forest car park on the butterfly trail on the left.

To get started At Oberelsbach there is a free car park on the edge of the forest between Oberelsbach and Oberwaldbehrungen with space for approx. Five vehicles. (Geogr. Coordinates: 50.436836, 10.145665)If you get on at Unterelsbach, there is parking at the edge of the forest for approx. Three vehicles. (Geographical coordinates: 50.424352, 10.149997)
