Past the forest house Wüstensachsen, this easy-to-walk path leads along Herrenwasser to Melperts. This circular route is particularly suitable for families as it is also suitable for prams. Via the old Celtic local connection, which has now been expanded as a bike path and footpath, you can return to the starting point in Wüstensachsen.

Author’s recommendation

A visit to the lovingly tended Marian Grotto in Melperts is one of the highlights of this tour.

Safety information

The tourist routes of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, riders, cross-country skiers, etc.)

We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. The same applies, of course, to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, therefore, nature sports should only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.

Public transport

There are three bus stops in Wüstensachsen, the starting point of the hike. The bus stop Wüstensachsen Rathaus is best suited for your journey here. From here the LNG Fulda lines run:
  • Line 30: Wüstensachsen - Hilders - Eckweisbach - Dipperz - Fulda
  • Line 37: Poppenhausen - Gersfeld - Wasserkuppe - Wüstensachsen
  • Linie 90 RhönRadBus: Gersfeld - Wasserkuppe - Hilders - Milseburgradweg - Fulda

Getting there

Wüstensachsen can be reached via the A7, A66 and A71.

If you come to the hike on the A7, leave the autobahn at exit 92 Fulda-Mitte and drive in the direction of Hilders. In the Hilders district of Batten, turn right towards Ehrenberg-Wüstensachen. In Wüstensachsen you turn onto the Rhönstraße in the direction of Oberelsbach. Next to the church you turn into the "An der Kirche" from which you can drive to the parking facilities at the community center.

Leave the A66 at Kreuz 53 Fulda-Süd and take the B27 in the direction of Bad Brückenau. Just a short distance later, in Döllbach, turn left onto the B279 in the direction of Gersfeld. In Gersfeld, turn left towards Ehrenberg-Wüstensachsen. In Wüstensachsen you drive over the Rhönstraße to the street "An der Kirche".

If you use the A71 to get here, you should leave it at exit 24 Mellrichstadt. Here you drive on the B285 in the direction of Ostheim to Fladungen. Shortly before the end of Fladungen, turn left towards Hochrhönstrasse
