The circular hike "Saueichenweg" begins in Unterelsbach and leads mostly through a forest on the Dornberg.
Distance 5.9 km
Highest point440 m
Lowest point348 m
The hiking trail runs mainly on narrow paths through mixed forests with carpets of blueberry bushes and hawthorn bushes to the natural monument "Saueiche", a tree veteran in whose vicinity there is a nice resting place. Where the path leaves the forest, you have a clear view of the Kreuzberg near Bischofsheim in the distance and the Himmeldunkberg with its unforested summit.
If you have a little time, you should definitely plan a visit to the "Haus der Langen Rhön" biosphere center with its interactive exhibition.
Biosphärenzentrum Rhön "Haus der Langen Rhön", NBR e.V.
The tourist routes of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, riders, cross-country skiers, etc.)
We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. The same applies of course to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, therefore, nature sports should only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.
