From Grüsselbach through the nature reserve Standorfsberg - Rasdorf - Rhön
Hiking trail
· Rhön
Nature and culture meet here. Ancient and new memorial stones, wayside shrines and the very special nutrient-poor grassland culture alternate here.

Distance 5.4 km
Crossing the Standorfsberg nature reserve is a unique natural experience in itself. Anyone who then encounters landmarks from the former Kingdom of Prussia as well as new border monuments at the former inner-German border will experience the Feldflur in all its diversity. In spring and summer, nature blooms here with rare plants.
Author’s recommendation
Passing Point Alpha adds a good two hours to the tour time. You need at least that much time here to find out everything worth knowing.

Turn-by-turn directions
From the center of Grüsselbach, past the church and the birthplace of Johann Adam Förster, head north-east through the fields to the B84. After crossing this road (caution! Fast traffic), you reach the nature reserve Waldhof - Standorfsberg and hike along the state border of Hesse-Thuringia in the direction of Waldhof. You enter part of the "Green Belt" that runs through the whole of Germany on the patrol road at the border. The path now leads past the wayside shrine of St. Wendelin - St. Eustachius and the small settlement of Waldhof (private property!) to the memorial stone of the local district of Geisaer Amt. Here it goes downhill to the right through the forest to cross the B84. On the way you can make a detour to the historic boundary stone at Hummelsrain. In the Grüsselbacher Holl you will find the Mariengrotte and then turn left to the Grüsselbacher Friedhof. The hike ends again at the Grüsselbach Church. The hike guide can be downloaded here as a GPX code.
