The near-natural hiking trail is comfortable and suitable for the whole family. If you feel like more, you can extend the hike with an afternoon at the lake or a weekend in a tent!

As the name suggests, this family trail goes around the beautiful lake, the Schönsee. Always within view of the lake, we run in laps. This natural idyll invites you to swim and splash around after a run. For years, the Schönsee, which is around 3.5 hectares in size and up to 25 meters deep, has been certified by the Federal Environment Agency to have excellent water quality. In addition, children can romp around in the huge outdoor playground. Anyone who has become hungry from swimming and playing will find a snack bar next door with the option to stop for a break. If you want to turn your little walk into a whole adventure weekend, you can stay overnight in hikers' huts and tents on the campsite. It is guaranteed not to be boring here!

Author’s recommendation

Walk over hill and dale and then enjoy the bathing paradise along the way to cool off.

Safety information

The tourist routes of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, riders, cross-country skiers, etc.).

We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. The same applies of course to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, therefore, nature sports should only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.
