The Extratour begins in the village of Waldfenster and leads past the spring of the Lauter into one of the largest nature reserves in Bavaria north of the Alps - the Black Mountains. After climbing through species-rich mountain meadows, you reach the Platzer Kuppe, a 737 meter high mountain in the core zone of the UNESCO Rhön Biosphere Reserve. with good weather, a breathtaking view of the Rhön can be enjoyed from here.
Downhill, the path now leads through a large forest area, the Waldfensterer Forst, in which you can still find the remains of historic hiking glassworks. After crossing the forest, you get back to the starting point of the tour, forest window.
In the forests of the Black Mountains you can find peace - if you need a balance to the hectic everyday life, you've come to the right place.
The tourist routes of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, riders, cross-country skiers, etc.).
We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. The same applies of course to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, therefore, nature sports should only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.
