The comfortable circular hiking trail runs mainly on meadow paths and forest paths through the gently rolling landscape between Rhön and Grabfeld.

Starting from Münnerstadt, the extra tour leads along the valley water to the Hainberg. At the summit you will find the watchtower "Blue Stork" the first rest point on the Extratour.

We continue to follow the route through the Münnerstadt forest. The more than 300-year-old image oak tree with numerous votive images is a very special attraction here. The next destination is a pilgrimage chapel from the early 18th century - the Talkirche.

On narrow paths we reach the heath plateau after a mixed forest. On the semi-arid grassland there we find the tour's namesake - juniper bushes. These thrive very well on the barren soil. Plants such as pasque flowers, cowslips, silver thistles and some orchids are also at home here. Birds and butterflies alike buzz around in the surrounding hedgerows. This section is completed by attractive panoramas.

Then it goes back to the historic old town of Münnerstadt.

Author’s recommendation

After the circular hike, the old town should definitely be explored.

Safety information

The tourist paths of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, horse riders, cross-country skiers, etc.).

We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. Of course, the same applies to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, nature sports should therefore only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.
