The Extratour Thulbataler takes us right into the heart of a Rhön core zone. A refreshing celebration for us hiking fans in the truest sense of the word!

We start at the former cottage gardens in Oberthulba and hike through the Thulbaaue to a core zone of the Rhön biosphere reserve. The original forest impresses us with its mighty block heaps made of 240 million year old red sandstone.

On a small path we walk downstream to the Reither Mühle and soon to a historic irrigation system. Past floodplain meadows, the Extratour takes us to a water treading basin and finally to the outskirts of Thulba. We discover a 400-year-old arch bridge with a wayside shrine on our tour.

We take a break at the water ski facility with restaurant. Who is daring and does a lap of water skiing? As the next stage, we climb the hill of the “Auraer Trift” hall section. Here we enjoy the hilly Thulba valley. Through a colorful mixed forest we reach a meadow hill above the Reither Mühle.

Back we hike down the slope on a path through old forest. We arrive at our starting point through the picturesque Rhön fields.

Die Extratour Thulbataler wird von Mai bis Oktober an den Wochenenden und Feiertagen mit dem Kreuzberg-Shuttle (Linie 8240) aus Richtung Hammelburg, Bad Kissingen (Bahnanschluss) und Kreuzberg erreicht. Die Haltestelle "Zum Hellbach" in Oberthulba wird dabei mehrmals täglich angefahren. Der Einstiegspunkt der Extratour befindet sich 200 m entfernt auf dem Marktplatz.

Anschlussverbindungen

In Bad Kissingen besteht Anschluss an den Bäderlandbus nach Bad Brückenau, Bad Bocklet und Bad Neustadt. Auf dem Kreuzberg ist der Anschluss an den Hochrhönbus von/nach Bischofsheim gegeben.

By road

Die Extratour Oberthulba kann gut über die A7 angefahren werden. Die Autobahn wird über die Ausfahrt 96 Bad Kissingen/Oberthulba verlassen. Auf der St2291 erreicht man nach wenigen Metern Oberthulba. An dem dortigen Marktplatz befindet sich der Startpunkt der Extratour Thulbataler.

Hallo Frau Happel, ist der Wanderweg Thulbathaler wieder frei gegeben?

Hallo Frau Kuhn-Rützel, ich habe dazu gerade mit dem Markt Oberthulba telefoniert. Die Extratour wird kommende Woche wieder eröffnet und kann danach wieder bewandert werden. Es ist also nur noch ein paar Tage nicht möglich den Weg zu begehen. Viele Grüße, Katharina Happel - Rhön GmbH

Recht schöne Wanderung für die Einheimischen vor Ort, meines Erachtens nach aber ohne (touristische) Highlights. Die Wegstrecke hatte sich daher auch, trotz überschaubarer Länge, gezogen. Zurück Richtung Oberthulba war nochmal ein schöner Teilabschnitt durch den Wald entlang des Flusslaufes.
