Hiking in the Rhön and the Grabfeld? - On the Extratour Strahlunger you hike in a beautiful low mountain range through meadows, between fruit trees and through forest.

Starting from the parking facilities at the cemetery in Strahlen, the path leads hikers counter-clockwise out of the town center. The tour runs above the village to the model vineyard, a shell limestone slope on which wine was grown until 1840. A short time later you reach the viewing platform at the former quarry and can let your gaze wander over the beautiful landscape of the Rhön and the Grabfeld.

Across meadows and through forests we reach the Höhberg with its summit cross, on which the panorama points Lautertalblick and Michelsbergblick open up. Finally we reach the highlight of the extra tour, the Schlegelwarte - an observation tower from the 13th century, which can still be climbed today. After the observation tower, the extra tour leads back in the direction of radiation - past a chapel with a great view. A short time later you reach the starting point at the cemetery in radiation.

Safety information

The tourist routes of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, riders, cross-country skiers, etc.).

We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. The same applies of course to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, therefore, nature sports should only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.
