The Extratour Milseburg takes us back to the exciting past of the Rhön. As is so often the case, the journey is the goal. The tour impressively shows how varied the Rhön is.

We start at the Danzwiesen hiking car park. Along the trail, we learn interesting things from the settlement history of the Rhön. So we quickly approach the 835 m high summit of the Milseburg with the crucifixion group and St. Gangolf chapel. We enjoy the panoramic view from the unwooded summit. Pure nature then presents itself to us in the forest with numerous rock formations on the steep slopes of the Milseburg. This core zone of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön is allowed to develop without human use.

On the Extratour we hike over the Stellberg and immerse ourselves in the original mixed deciduous forest. From the large basalt rubble dump in the summit area, we experience a grandiose view of the Fuldaer Land down to the Rhön river Bieber.

The nature experience continues: Around the basalt mountain Maulkuppe, the "Land of Open Distances" amazes us with changing panoramic views of the Rhön Mountains before the extra tour returns to the starting point.

Author’s recommendation

In any case, plan enough time to visit the Milseburg. The excavation finds and the reconstruction of the ring wall clearly show how important the Celtic settlement at the foot of the mountain once was.

Safety information

The tourist routes of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, riders, cross-country skiers, etc.)

We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. The same applies of course to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, therefore, nature sports should only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.
