A varied route for sporty “cross-border commuters”, because the Haubentour runs between the Hessian and Bavarian Rhön.

So, let's take a look at the southernmost part of the Fulda district today. From the parking lot "Steiger" south of Heubach we start walking expectantly. Everywhere along the Hessian-Bavarian border we discover numerous historical landmarks. And already a highlight is in sight in the truest sense of the word: The Mottener Haube observation tower (see author's tip) gives us a wonderful all-round view of the ridge, the Wildflecken military training area with the pilgrimage church "Maria Ehrenberg" and the Rhön mountains with the Wasserkuppe and Milseburg in the north. Grandiose and unforgettable!

If we take the part of the tour to the west of the A7, our hike runs through the picturesque fields of Heubach and through a varied, graceful forest meadow landscape. We climb the Frauenstein with the parking lot and the natural monument "Taufstein", come to the hamlet Sparhof and finally over the Sengesberg back to the starting point.

We can start the tour from the hiking car parks at Sparhof, at the motorway bridge and Steiger.

Author’s recommendation

Be sure to climb the 122 steps at the Mottener Haube observation tower. On the viewing platform you can find out why - the panoramic view. over the mountains.

Safety information

The touristic paths of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, riders, cross-country skiers, etc.)

We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. The same applies of course to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, therefore, nature sports should only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.

Sehr lange Wanderung, die sich ein ganzes Stück mit der naheliegenden Extratour "Der Mottener" teilt, im Vergleich mir aber nicht so gut gefallen hat.
