Forest, meadows and water characterize the varied Extratour Der Mottener. On the way we discover rare rock formations, an abundance of fish and a lot of clear view.
Distance 16.4 km
A promising round awaits us on the Extratour Der Mottener! We walk along the border between Bavaria and Hesse and discover one historical boundary stone after another. One of the highlights is the Rhöner Berg Mottener Haube. From the observation tower there, we let our gaze wander far over the mountains of the Rhön.
On the Extratour we hike through forests and meadows. What is splashing and rustling there? That's the Kleine Sinn. Even the beaver has returned to the river. We can find out what is happening in the water on the display boards on the fish trail. We are amazed at the next impressive destination of the Extratour. It is the Pilster, a steeply rising phonolite rock, at the foot of which carbonated water emerges in the so-called "Sauerbrunnen".
Climb the 122 steps up the Mottener Haube observation tower. On the viewing platform you can find out which mountains the panoramic view shows you.
Premium route awarded the "Deutsches Wandersiegel"
Best time of year
The tourist routes of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, riders, cross-country skiers, etc.)
We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. The same applies of course to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, therefore, nature sports should only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.
