Streckenloipe Rother Kuppe Sennhütte - Hausen/Fladungen - Rhön
Cross-country skiing
This demanding trail leads largely through dense Rhön winter forest.
Classic
difficult
Distance 17.9 km
Starting from the Rother Kuppe, the trail runs through partly quite winding wooded areas in the direction of the Eisgraben natural forest reserve - one of the core zones in the Bavarian biosphere reserve. Passing the Frauenhöhle, a legendary natural cave in Basel, we continue in the direction of the Sennhütte. In this area, the trail rewards you with a wonderful view over the open spaces of the Hochrhön. After the short circular tour, you return to the starting point via the same pathes.
Due to the steepness and the many curves, this trail is particularly suitable for experienced winter sports enthusiasts.
Refreshments are available at the Gasthof Sennhütte and the Rother Kuppe. The detour to the kiosk on the Black Moor is also worthwhile.

Safety information
The route includes a road crossing. Snowdrifts may occur due to tree-free areas in the area below the Sennhütte. For safety reasons, please pay attention to the direction of travel on the on-site signs.
The tourist paths of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists , walkers, riders, cross-country skiers, etc.).
We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. Of course, the same applies to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, nature sports should therefore only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.
Tips and hints
- The snow hotline provides information about the winter conditions in the Rhön.
- Good to know: the nature trail through the Black Moor and the observation tower are closed in the winter months.
