The tour leads through the open terrain past Bloßberg. We pass rows of trees and enjoy the wide views of the enchanted winter landscape of the Rhön. Through the open paths it goes back to the starting point. If you want to continue enjoying the Rhön winter landscape, you can take the Sennhütte circular trail opposite in the direction of the former inner-German border.

Due to the slight difference in altitude, the trail is suitable for an entertaining trip to the Rhön as well as for beginners.

The Sennhütte inn and the nearby kiosk at the Schwarzen Moor with delicious regional dishes.

Author’s recommendation

A detour to the information point at the Black Moor is worthwhile! There you can discover regional products and Rhön literature.

Safety information

The route includes a road crossing. Due to the tree-free areas, snowdrifts may occur.

For safety reasons, please pay attention to the direction of travel on the on-site signs.

The tourist paths of the Rhön are mostly also used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, horse riders, cross-country skiers, etc.).

We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to be considerate of each other. Of course, the same applies to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, nature sports should therefore only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.

Tips and hints

  • The amount of snow can be estimated with the help of the webcam on the Black Moor.
  • The snow hotline provides information about the winter conditions in the Rhön.
  • Good to know: The nature trail through the Black Moor and the lookout tower are closed in the winter months.
