Fernloipe B9 - From Holzberghof to Sennhütte - Rhön
Cross-country skiing
The designation of the Rhön as the land of the open distances comes into its own along this trail.
Classic
moderate
Distance 35.5 km
The tour first leads through snow-covered winter forest further into the Hessian Rhön past the Red Moor. We continue in the direction of Schornhecke back to the Bavarian part of the Rhön biosphere reserve. On the route you can enjoy the view of Mount Heidelstein. Through largely open landscape, the route takes us further through the nature reserve Lange Rhön to the border triangle. Breathtaking views are rewarded along the route.
Refreshments are available at the Holzberghof hunting lodge, at the kiosk on the Black Moor and at the Sennhütte inn.
Author’s recommendation
Plan a detour to the information point Schwarzes Moor! There are regional products and Rhön literature.

There is a risk of snowdrifts along the tree-free stretches.
The tourist paths of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, horseback riders, cross-country skiers, etc.).
We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. Of course, the same applies to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, nature sports should therefore only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.
Tips and hints
- The snow hotline provides information about the winter conditions in the Rhön.
- Good to know: the nature trail through the Black Moor and the observation tower are closed in the winter months.
